The SkillThe engineering team is looking for a collaborative, passionate, adaptable Director of Engineering. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally as a leader in our engineering team to advocate for and build on our amazing culture. In this role you will have the opportunity to join a small start-up making big waves in the construction and analytics industries. You can expect to play an active role in the development and completion of the project lifecycle, as well as effectively communicating and working with multiple and diverse teams, organizing work schedules and computational resources, aligning engineering activities and projects with company goals and objectives, and providing expert guidance and support to both internal and external stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have experience in identifying and navigating organizational changes, a keen interest in international trends in engineering and leadership, impeccable integrity, and an above average emotional intelligence. The Director of Engineering reports directly to the CTO and is involved in all aspects of delivering and operating our products.
The StandardYou are a proven leader with 10+ years of experience in wed-based software development/software engineering, data warehousing, or other client/server applications with at least 3 years experience managing and growing software engineering teams. You're educated with a deep desire for continuous learning and improvement and at least a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field (gold star for a Master's+). You definitely have experience with object oriented and functional programming languages such as Ruby, C++ and Java as well as Python and Scala. You're comfortable with SQL databases, web development platforms (i.e., Rails), and cloud computing providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Services, or Microsoft Azure. You have great knowledge of network protocols, processes, threads, and Linux (scripting & bash). You likely have a strong understanding of multi-tenant SaaS architecture and experience with centralized logging services (LogEntries, SumoLogic, Splunk). Containerization services such as Kubernetes and Docker are your jam and you often monitor with tools such as NewRelic or Nagios.
Your contribution is woven into the deepest fibers of the Briq fabric because you: • Drive a culture of excellence in partnership with the product teams • Ensure the needs of our customers and the product teams are met with high quality, consistent, and reliable software • Establish organizational practices, a service platform, and operations support that scale with out team and products, consistently resulting in high-quality visionary, strategic and tactical design outputs • Ensure leadership understands and contributes to design and implementation of products and services across Briq • Build internal and external relationships to communicate and educate about Briq (a Briq evangelist) • Ensure the use of data is woven into the practice of Briq design • Hire great engineers and managers to support the needs of our fast-growing engineering team • Partner strategically with leads of Content and User Research to balance efficiency and excellence of execution, while helping to build a culture of innovation and customer advocacy • Lead from the front by contributing implementation and code reviews
